A series of devastating road accidents have claimed the lives of six individuals across Buikwe, Bushenyi, and Mbarara districts in Uganda. Among the victims is 17-year-old Abella Amutusimire, a senior four student, who tragically lost her life while en route to pick up her Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results and admission letter to senior five.
The first accident occurred along the Mbarara-Bushenyi road in Bushenyi District, where Abella and her brother, Clinton Niwetwesiga, were riding a motorcycle. A Sino truck collided with them at Rwentuha town council, resulting in Abella’s untimely death. Her brother sustained injuries and was admitted to a nearby health facility for treatment.
In another incident on the Mbarara-Masaka highway, three people lost their lives when a speeding vehicle collided with two motorcycles traveling in the same direction. Two passengers on one motorcycle and the rider of another motorcycle died at the scene, while a pedestrian and the other motorcycle rider sustained injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, abandoning a child inside the car after realizing the severity of the crash.
Additionally, two drivers tragically lost their lives in a collision at Sanga-Mabira along the Kampala-Jinja highway in Buikwe District. The collision involved two Mercedes Benz trucks, with one attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided with an oncoming truck.
Both drivers were killed instantly, and their bodies were taken to Kawolo hospital mortuary for further proceedings.
