Today, Uganda’s contingent of athletes is poised to embark on their journey to Tunisia for the highly anticipated African Cross Country Championship. The team comprises five athletes, all competing in the Senior Men category, alongside two officials, demonstrating the country’s commitment to this prestigious event.
Abdallah Muhammed, the Publicity Secretary at Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), sheds light on the composition of the team, consisting of Elijah Cheptoek, Abel Chebet, Ezekiel Mutai, Isaiah Kibet, and Levi Kiprotich. Accompanying them are officials Aggrey Agol and Moses Kipsiro, who will provide guidance and support throughout the championship.
Muhammed explains that due to limited resources at the Federation, particularly in light of delayed government funding, the focus was primarily on the Senior Men category. This strategic decision ensures that despite challenges, Uganda maintains representation and competitiveness at the event.
Elijah Cheptoek, the national team captain, expresses confidence in the team’s abilities, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective effort in achieving success. He underscores the collaborative nature of cross country racing, highlighting the team’s determination to deliver a commendable performance.
Moses Kipsiro, a prominent figure within Ugandan athletics and the team’s lead leader, echoes Cheptoek’s sentiments, expressing optimism about the team’s prospects. Drawing from his extensive experience, including notable victories at the 2008 Commonwealth Games, Kipsiro instills a sense of pride and determination among his teammates.
