Authorities in Kanungu have initiated an investigation into the perplexing demise of a two-year-old boy named Akampereza, son of Gerard Akampereza, a resident of Kyomuringa cell in Nyarutojo parish, Kambuga sub-county, Kanungu district.

Reports suggest that the child, who had been grappling with health issues since birth, fell ill once again in March. His stepmother, Ahurira Prossy, took him to Kambuga Hospital, where medical advice indicated surgery was necessary.

Alarm bells rang in the community when the child vanished from his home. Upon inquiry by the local area chairman, Emmanuel Mugisha, the father confessed to the child’s demise, stating that he had personally buried him. This admission raised suspicions due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the burial.

Both parents, the father, and the stepmother were subsequently apprehended by law enforcement.

Investigators, during their examination of the scene, noticed fresh soil behind the toilet, hinting at a possible makeshift burial site.

Authorities are awaiting a court order to proceed with an exhumation and postmortem examination, aiming to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing.
