In a recent incident in Soroti City, Eastern Uganda, a 23-year-old woman was attacked by a group of individuals after a night out with her two cousins. The incident occurred on the night of September 18, 2023, and is being investigated by the police.
The victim, a resident of Amen, “B” cell in the Western division of Soroti City, had gone out for a drink with her cousins, Isaac and Nathan, after visiting a friend at Camp Swahili. They left the bar in Wire cell around midnight to head home. While on their way, they were joined by approximately 13 other men at Odeke cell, Nakalunya ward, Western division in Soroti City.
During the encounter, the group allegedly assaulted and gang-raped the young woman. They also stole her belongings, including 200,000 shillings, a mobile phone, shoes, vest, bra, and knickers.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the suspects are currently in hiding. In a separate development, authorities in Aswa West and Amuru District have detained a 20-year-old peasant farmer who is accused of raping an 80-year-old woman.
