Juliet Nakabuye, the Woman Member of Parliament for Masaka City under the National Unity Platform (NUP), has openly questioned the approach of her party’s president, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, in handling internal matters.

Nakabuye’s concerns stem from the recent public suspension of Mathias Mpuuga, the Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe, from his role as the party’s deputy president for the central region. Mpuuga’s suspension was announced amidst allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

Expressing her views on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Saturday, March 30, 2024, Nakabuye highlighted the potential negative consequences of Bobi Wine’s chosen approach. She emphasized that the recent events have exposed gaps in the party’s organizational structure, particularly its lack of a functioning constitution.

In her bold statement, Nakabuye urged Bobi Wine to reconsider his methods of addressing internal issues within the party. She stressed the importance of utilizing official party channels rather than resorting to social media platforms. Additionally, she emphasized the significance of seeking counsel from respected elders within society.

Nakabuye referenced a recent meeting between NUP Members of Parliament and the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga. During this meeting, the Katikkiro advised the MPs to exercise patience and tolerance towards differing viewpoints when resolving internal conflicts.

The Masaka City MP underscored the seriousness of the situation by highlighting the contradiction between the Katikkiro’s guidance and the subsequent public announcement of Mpuuga’s suspension on social media. She questioned the perception of NUP among religious leaders and other key stakeholders in light of these events.

In a heartfelt plea, Nakabuye urged those close to Bobi Wine to convey her message that failure to adjust the party’s approach to internal matters could have dire consequences. She warned of disillusionment among Ugandans who have pinned their hopes on NUP as a viable alternative to President Yoweri Museveni’s administration.

Nakabuye’s outspokenness reflects growing concerns within NUP regarding the party’s leadership style and decision-making processes.
