Three people were killed in a head-on crash between a taxi and a bus on the Kampala-Gulu Highway in Nwoya district early Friday morning.
The accident happened about 800 meters from Karuma Bridge. According to a traffic officer, a taxi traveling to Gulu attempted to overtake another vehicle on a sharp bend and collided with a bus heading to Kampala from Arua.
The taxi driver and two passengers on the bus were confirmed dead. Their identities are not yet known. The bus wreckage is currently at the Karuma police post.
Three more people who were in the taxi were injured and taken to Anaka Mortuary General Hospital. The driver of the taxi is missing, and police are searching for him.
Investigators believe speeding and reckless driving may have been the cause of the accident, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
