The suspect identified as Kenneth Akanduhura, a resident of Kyeitembe Cell, Central Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, in Bushenyi District, was a candidate in the 2021 general elections as an independent candidate.
According to Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, it is alleged that in November 2023, while the victim (name withheld) was working as a maid at the residence of Akanduhura, she was forced into sexual intercourse and later threatened not to tell anybody.
“This happened when the suspect’s wife had been admitted to the hospital for treatment. After some time, the victim was taken for examination by her aunt, and it was established that she was pregnant. The suspect was informed and instead requested the victim to return to his home so that they could confirm the pregnancy through another test,” narrates the police PRO.
Tumusiime says the suspect instead took the pregnant teenager to a medical center and performed an abortion in February 2024, which went wrong, resulting in complications.
Monica Kenyegamo, an aunt and guardian to the orphaned victim, says she is in serious pain with difficulty walking.
She reveals that Akanduhura had been sending them money for treatment until recently when he started rejecting their calls. “He first sent me 20,000 shillings when she was admitted to Mbarara referral, and later 500,000 which I was supposed to use to take the victim to the hospital in Rukungiri, but her condition is yet to improve,” narrates Kenyegamo.
However, when contacted on his phone number, Akanduhura denied the accusations leveled against him as false and baseless but could not divulge more information.
