Police in Mitooma are investigating the circumstances in which a 38-year-old woman was murdered by unknown assailants.
Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, has identified the deceased as Mones Naturinda, a peasant resident of Nyakaziba village, Igambiro Parish, Katenga Subcounty in Mitooma District.
“The decomposing body of the deceased was discovered yesterday on 21st/04/2024 by locals who had gone to cut grass along Nyamirembe River,” Tumusiime told this reporter.
Tumusiime said that the deceased had two deep cut wounds around the left eye and a puncture wound on the lower part of the right thigh.
“The handbag of the deceased containing her national ID and a mobile phone was also recovered from the scene,” he added.
According to Tumuhairwe Bonifance, the Chairman LC.1 of Nyakaziba village, Igambiro Parish, Katenga Subcounty in Mitooma District, the deceased, who had been living with her maternal grandmother, would leave home without informing anyone and go for prayers in Bushenyi District, only to return home after three days.
“The deceased disappeared from home on 15-04-2024 at around 1400 hours. As usual, the family assumed she had gone for prayers and did not report her disappearance,” the chairman narrated.
A postmortem was done on the body at the scene by Dr. Oloya Patrick of Mitooma Health Center IV, and statements were recorded from relevant witnesses as investigations commenced.
