The districts of Kapelebyong, Soroti, and Katakwi in the Teso region have recently received a shipment of vital materials in preparation for the upcoming 11th National Housing and Population Census. This delivery, which arrived on May 2nd, included various items such as computers (tablets), chargers, power banks, T-shirts, and bags, among other essentials. These supplies were provided by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics to facilitate the smooth conduct of the census.
The distribution of these materials is timely, coinciding with the ongoing one-week training for census supervisors and enumerators across the country. The census training aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to accurately collect data on Uganda’s population and housing. With the census scheduled to commence on May 10, 2024, the timely arrival of these materials is crucial for ensuring an efficient and accurate count.
Emmanuel Opio, the communication officer of Kapelebyong district, emphasized the importance of timely material distribution in ensuring the seamless execution of the census. He stressed the need for accurate and reliable data collection to better inform development planning and resource allocation in Uganda.
Similarly, Abraham Ekwaru, the communication officer of Soroti district, affirmed that the census program is progressing as planned. He urged all Ugandans to cooperate by staying at home during the census period, which has been declared a public holiday. Ekwaru also called upon leaders at all levels to mobilize their communities and encourage participation in the census, scheduled to commence on the night of May 9, 2024.
