Luke Owoyesigyire, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, has revealed that an investigation is currently ongoing regarding a tragic hit-and-run incident. The incident took place around 2:00 AM on May 29th, 2024, at the Total Petrol Station in Kitende, located along the Kampala-Entebbe Road.

According to reports from eyewitnesses, there are conflicting accounts surrounding the circumstances of the incident. Some allege that the driver of a white Fuso truck, bearing registration number UBB 891J and carrying matooke, collided with an unidentified individual before fleeing the scene. Another version of events suggests that the victim was forcibly removed from the vehicle, which then departed from the scene.

Following the incident, concerned members of the public pursued the vehicle, ultimately intercepting it at Kasubi. Subsequently, the driver was apprehended, and the body of the deceased was transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination.

Due to the disparities in the eyewitness testimonies, the case has been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Kajjansi. Their task is to meticulously investigate and ascertain the precise sequence of events that led to the tragic death of the individual involved.

Luke Owoyesigyire assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. The police are committed to conducting a thorough and transparent inquiry into this unfortunate incident to ensure that justice is served and that the truth is revealed.
