Katakwi Grade One Court has remanded Usuk Town Council Councillor, Jude Okiror, and taxi driver Bosco Egwang on charges of assaulting Hazel Amodoi, a resident of Ongongoja Sub County.
The incident, which occurred on May 9th, 2024, saw Okiror and Egwang, who are associated with Usuk MP Bosco Okiror, allegedly assaulting Amodoi for her support of Richard Ongorok, a political aspirant.
Yesterday, May 30th, 2024, they were denied bail and remanded in prison until May 6th, 2024.
Confirming the development, D/ASP Magoola Anthony, the O/C CID Katakwi District, stated that the case, registered under SD 16/19/05/2024, had completed the initial court procedures.
Witness Ongobe Lawrence corroborated the incident, stating that the duo confronted Amodoi in Usuk and subjected her to questioning and physical restraint.
In their defense, the accused admitted to assaulting Amodoi, citing her alleged interference with their candidate’s campaign.
In other news, women have been encouraged to actively participate in government programs to attain political, social, and economic empowerment.
During a meeting on gender-responsive service delivery and women’s empowerment organized by UWONET at the Royalist Hotel in Katakwi, Hon. Marion Atim, the Chairperson of the Women’s Council in Katakwi District and Councillor for Kapujan Sub County, highlighted the prevalent exclusion of women from government programs despite efforts at empowerment.

Eveline Atuco, the Deputy District Planner for Katakwi, emphasized the district’s commitment to involving women in decision-making processes and ensuring their access to government programs.
Hon. Joseph Ecuma, the District Vice Chairperson, urged women not to hesitate in participating in programs aimed at benefiting the community.
