The Police in Sheema District are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on the Mbarara-Kasese highway near Kooga.
The accident involved a Toyota Premio car, registration number UAS 658A, driven by George Bafaaki, a teacher at Busiro Secondary School in Sheema District, and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFJ 927Y, ridden by Hillary Bakashaba.
According to police spokesperson Marcial Tumusiime, the car was traveling from Mbarara towards Bushenyi when it collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision threw all three occupants of the motorcycle off the bike.
While Bakashaba, the rider, sustained injuries, the passenger, Robert Kamugisha, the LC1 chairman of Mugarusya cell in Mbarara District, unfortunately died shortly after being taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
The third passenger, Annet Atwiine, Kamugisha’s wife, was also injured and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
