In a twist of events, a 19-year-old boy (name withheld) in Obongi District, at Odonga Central area, was caught on Monday engaging in direct sex with a two-year-old goat. He was rounded up by angry members of Itula Sub-County who started hitting him with stones, aiming to kill him, saying he was an abomination and a total disgrace to the cultural and social setting of the area. Unfortunately, the goat did not survive after the unfortunate sexual assault by the man.

In a related story, another man was allegedly caught red-handed having sexual intercourse with a four-year-old cow in Obongi District on Monday evening and was beaten up seriously. According to a reliable source, when asked why he was doing so, he narrated that most women in Obongi do not accept men to fall in love with them, which is why he resorted to having affairs with animals, claiming they are more beautiful and disciplined.

In yet another sad incident, two people lost their lives during mob justice on Saturday night in Itula Sub-County, Obongi District, simply because they were suspected and accused of stealing a goat. The two were killed after the community experienced a series of allegations and constant goat thefts in the area. Among them was one identified only as Mambo, and a yet-to-be-identified businessman at Konyokonyo market area. Mambo comes from Itula Sub-County, whereas one of the suspects was badly injured and is currently undergoing treatment in a health facility.

Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbasa Hasaka attributes the increase in mob justice in Obongi to the absence of courts, including magistrates, RSAs, and prisons. He requested the government of Uganda to speed up the process of setting up court premises in Obongi, including the deployment of a resident magistrate, RSAs, and the establishment of a prison building in the area. He said at the moment, they are taking suspects to attend court hearings in Moyo Court, which is 70 kilometers from Obongi District headquarters.

OC CID Obongi CPS, SP Isiko Balisabyuka, when contacted at 2:07 PM on Tuesday afternoon, declined to talk to the media, saying he feared giving any information under investigation to people he doesn’t know very well.
