The Chief of Joint Staff, Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, has expressed appreciation for the ongoing support provided by the British government to Uganda, particularly in the training of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF). His commendation came during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the British military to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) Headquarters in Mbuya.
Maj Gen Bakasumba highlighted the positive impact of the training on UPDF soldiers, noting that it has significantly enhanced their capabilities and resilience. He underscored the crucial role played by these trained personnel in maintaining peace and stability, particularly in Somalia. Emphasizing the importance of building a patriotic and robust force in Somalia, Maj Gen Bakasumba reiterated UPDF’s commitment to defending the country.
Expressing the willingness of UPDF to strengthen the existing good relationship with the British military, Maj Gen Bakasumba affirmed the importance of continued collaboration and cooperation between the two nations in matters of defense and security.
Brig Gen Olly Bryant, the Head of British Defence Staff, East Africa, commended UPDF for its efforts in fostering peace and stability in Somalia. He pledged ongoing support from the British government, particularly in providing advanced training aimed at further enhancing the resilience and capabilities of UPDF soldiers.
Among those present at the meeting were Brig Gen Alex Olupot, representing the Joint Staff Training and Doctrine, as well as Lt Col Toby Barrington Barnes, the UK Defence Attaché to Uganda, alongside other senior UPDF officers.
