Police Arrest Two for Armed Robbery in Bwebajja
Police in Bwebajja arrested two men for an armed robbery that took place on June 6th, 2024.
The Crime
A mobile money dealer, Mbadiremu Maria (28), was attacked in her shop by a robber with a pistol. The robber stole approximately Ugx 3 million. However, Maria recognized the robber as a friend of a customer, Bugaya Edrine (20). She suspected Edrine was involved and called the police.
The Investigation
The police investigation revealed that Edrine had planned the robbery with Bahati Kisekka (27), the man who used the pistol. Police arrested both men that night.
The Evidence
Police found evidence linking the suspects to the crime, including:
- An unregistered pistol without a magazine
- Ugx 1.5 million (possibly stolen money)
- Clothing used during the robbery (black jumper, hood, face masks)
- Mobile phones with messages related to the crime
The investigation also revealed that Kisekka had smuggled the pistol from South Sudan.
Police Statement
The police spokesperson, SCP Enanga Fred, encouraged the public to use police station counter numbers to report crimes. He stated the arrests and recovered evidence demonstrate the police commitment to fighting crime. The suspects were charged with possessing an illegal firearm, robbery, and conspiracy.
