Okidi Patrick, Otuke – The territorial police in Otuke District are hunting for a suspect who speared a police officer identified as CPL Awio Alfred, attached to Ogor Police Post. This incident happened on June 10, 2024, at around 16:00 hours in Temboke Village, Omonyire Parish, Ogor Sub-County, Otuke District.

According to SP Okema Jimmy Patrick, the police PRO for the North Kyoga Region, it is alleged that on June 10, 2024, CPL Awio Alfred attended a burial in the Ogor area. However, while returning from the burial at around 16:00 hours, he met the suspect, identified only as Ocen Sam, who was armed with a sharp object, which he used to injure the victim.

The victim was speared more than twice in the back but managed to defend himself and disarm the suspect. Despite being in critical condition due to excessive bleeding, the suspect escaped, and the victim was rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

A case of attempted murder has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. The crime scene was examined and well-documented. The statement of an eyewitness has been recorded, and the object suspected to have been used in the incident was recovered and exhibited.

SP Okema Jimmy added that a PF3 form has been issued for a medical examination. Efforts to arrest the suspect and produce him in court for prosecution are still ongoing.

Preliminary findings indicate the suspect had been released from prison on court bail after being previously charged by the victim for assaulting his grandfather. However, a warrant of arrest was issued, and the police officer was tracing him for re-arrest.

“We want to warn members of the public to be very respectful to police and security officers while executing their duties, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. We advise this suspect to report himself to the nearest police facility to avoid any other serious actions against him,” said SP Okema Jimmy.
