Mother and Children Charged with Father's Brutal Murder

The Territorial Police in Kigezi Region and Rukungiri CPS have arrested a mother and her two children for allegedly murdering Byamukama Vincent, a 53-year-old peasant from Mushuga village, Nyakisenyi sub-county. The murder occurred due to family disagreements after the father had expelled them from the home. The suspects are Byamukama’s wife, Mutesigensi Everino, aged 44, their daughter Nishaba Hildah, aged 19, and their son Akanyijuka Moses, aged 21.

On June 4, 2024, Byamukama, who had a drinking problem, came home drunk and chased away his wife, daughter, and 6-year-old grandson, Ainamani Wilbroad. They sought refuge with neighbors but would sneak back to the house to cook when Byamukama was out drinking. On June 8, 2024, they returned home to cook but found Byamukama there. He threatened them with a panga, a type of machete, and chased them away again.

That night, around 11 PM, the family waited for Byamukama to fall asleep. They then entered the house, took the panga from beside his bed, and used it to hack his neck, killing him instantly. They carried his body on his mattress and burned it near the main house. After burning the body, they dumped the remains in the toilet and demolished it.

The victim’s relatives became suspicious when they noticed his absence and pressured the family for information. The suspects claimed that Byamukama had fallen and died in the pit latrine. Relatives then excavated the toilet and found a human skull and other body remains. They also found a walking stick and burnt mattress pieces at the scene.

The suspects—Mutesigensi Everino, Akanyijuka Moses, and Ninshaba Hildah—are now in custody and are scheduled to appear in court.

Police Spokesperson SCP Enanga Fred condemned the violent act, stating, “We strongly condemn such brutal acts of violence within domestic settings. No excuse can justify the savagery committed by the suspects. Murders in domestic settings are avoidable if the warning signs of violence are detected early. Our dedicated Child and Family Protection Officers are always available and will attend to all victims.”
