KAMPALA – Bobi Wine, the leader of Uganda’s largest opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has accused government officials of misusing public funds. In a recent post on X, Bobi Wine detailed allegations against Anita Among, a prominent government official, and her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa.
Bobi Wine revealed that Anita Among spent 532 million Ugandan shillings of taxpayer money to fence and install compound lights at her private home in Bukedea District. Bukedea is known as one of the poorest districts in Uganda, making this expenditure particularly controversial. “Can you imagine this level of abuse of office?” Bobi Wine questioned.
Additionally, he disclosed that Among and Tayebwa spent another 591 million shillings to buy two generators for their private residences. Bobi Wine expressed outrage over this misuse of funds, highlighting the severe poverty in Bukedea and the broader implications for Uganda’s taxpayers.
Bobi Wine also criticized the leaders responsible for overseeing and preventing such abuses, accusing them of being bribed into silence. “Very sadly, while this plunder was going on, the leaders we sent to check and stop it were bribed into silence and joined the looters!” he stated.
Bobi Wine concluded his message with a call to action, urging Ugandans to stand against the current regime. “This madness will only come to an end when WE THE PEOPLE rise to the occasion and put an end to the Museveni dictatorship!” he declared.
