Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, who serves as both the Lira City woman MP and the Minister of Health, inaugurated a National Policy Dialogue on the health workforce in Uganda on Thursday. The two-day event, held at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, focused on strategies to invest in and optimize the health workforce to meet sustainable development goals.

The dialogue included notable attendees such as State Minister for Primary Health Care, Hon. Magret Muhanga, the World Health Organization (WHO) country representative, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and the retired Director General of Health Services, Professor Omwswa.

In her opening remarks, Minister Aceng highlighted the critical role health workers play in achieving health goals and alleviating the healthcare challenges faced by the country. She emphasized that the effectiveness of the health workforce is essential for reducing the healthcare burden on Uganda.

The event saw the launch of a comprehensive report by Minister Aceng, which addresses the various challenges in managing human resources for health. The report specifically focuses on the effective management of health consumables, such as medicine and supplies, which remains a significant obstacle to delivering efficient health services to the Ugandan population.

A significant part of the dialogue was the discussion of a labour market analysis report. This report, developed by the Ministry of Health with support from the WHO, provided in-depth insights into the current state of the health workforce in Uganda and offered recommendations for improvement.
