Bunyoro Kitara Diocese has secured 100 million out of the required 400 million Shillings to facilitate the consecration of the new Bishop, Rev. Canon Jacob Ateirweho.
Rev. Canon Jacob Ateirweho will be consecrated as the 6th Bishop of the Diocese on August 11, 2024, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Hoima, succeeding Bishop Samuel Kahuma, who has reached the mandatory retirement age of 65 years.
Various sub-committees have been established in Bunyoro and Kampala to oversee the arrangements. The Bunyoro Kitara Diocese committee is chaired by Rev. Erick Atwine, the Dean of St. Peter’s Cathedral, while the Kampala committee is led by David Karubanga, MP for Kigorobya County.
In an interview with Uganda Radio Network (URN), Rev. Atwine stated that the Diocese had raised 100 million Shillings so far, leaving a deficit of 300 million as the event approaches. He expressed confidence that the remaining funds would be raised through donations and contributions from well-wishers and friends of the Diocese.
Meanwhile, Bishop-elect Jacob Ateirweho mentioned that he is currently undergoing orientation under former Bishops of the Diocese in preparation for his new role. He emphasized his commitment to fostering teamwork, financial accountability, and transparency during his tenure.
Born on August 24, 1968, at Hoima Hospital, Ateirweho accepted Jesus Christ as his savior on April 5, 1991, and was ordained as a Deacon on February 5, 2006. He currently serves as the vicar of All Saints Church in Hoima town parish within the Bunyoro Kitara Diocese.
