Amolatar Central Police Station (CPS) has arrested three district officials amid an ongoing investigation into corruption and misuse of public funds.

The detained individuals include Dick Ongom, a district water pump mechanic currently serving as a Roads Account Manager; Samuel Otima, a sub-accountant in the engineering department, who is expected to provide police with relevant information and documents, particularly invoices of payments for roads in the financial year 2023/2024; and Fred Ogwang, who allegedly assumed the role of District Clerk of Works without proper appointment by the district service commission.

The suspects are set to be interrogated by detectives this evening.

Sources indicate a serious and extensive investigation into corruption in Amolatar, prompted by credible intelligence received by the president regarding the misuse of public funds by district officials. Upon his return from a week-long cabinet retreat in Kyankwanzi, the president’s first briefing concerned the corruption issues in Amolatar, leading some community members to organize a peaceful demonstration last week.

Reporters have learned that the president contacted Felix Adupa Ongwech, who provided details on the situation in Amolatar. Additional teams from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit are expected in Amolatar this week to support the investigation and launch a new probe into alleged corruption in the education department, where ghost teachers and pupils have been identified.

Amolatar gained attention two weeks ago when Felix Adupa Ongwech reported cases of corruption, abuse of office, and misuse of public funds to Amolatar CPS, registered under GEF/11/2024.
