Police in Kanungu have arrested Edison Ainembabazi, a 23-year-old resident of Mashoko Village in Rushaka Parish, Nyamirama Sub-County, Kanungu District, for allegedly sodomizing a minor.
Ainembabazi is accused of engaging in homosexual acts with a 12-year-old boy on July 23, 2024, around 5 PM, according to Fred Kagabambe, LC1 Chairman of Nyabushoro Village.
Kagabambe reports that Ainembabazi found the victim grazing goats, grabbed him, and took him to the bush where he allegedly committed the act.
Elly Maate, police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, stated that after the incident, the suspect went into hiding until his arrest on Friday.
He has been taken to Kanungu Police Station, where investigations are ongoing. The case is registered under file number CRB 469/2024.
Homosexuality was declared illegal in Uganda after President Yoweri Museveni signed the bill prohibiting it in May 2023.
