Police have detained Brian Mujuni and Anthony Arinaitwe in connection with a carjacking gang, following the recent arrest of ten individuals by the Police’s Flying Squad Unit. The arrests were confirmed by Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma during a press briefing at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Nakawa Division, Kampala.
Kituuma explained that mechanics in Kampala are heavily involved in car theft operations. These mechanics are said to have direct links with criminal rings and provide them with information about which cars to steal and their locations.
The gangs use various methods for car theft, including duplicating car keys, disabling alarm systems, and employing advanced electronic devices to bypass vehicle security features. They typically monitor parking lots and residential areas to select their targets.
Kituuma did not disclose additional details about the investigation but advised vehicle owners to install car trackers. He noted that car trackers can greatly improve the chances of recovering a stolen vehicle.
He said the police operation against car theft continues, with ongoing efforts to dismantle these criminal networks. Authorities also urged vehicle owners to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to protect their property.
