The police have arrested 49 individuals, including eight women, in connection with a series of thefts and burglaries in Kasangati, Wakiso district. Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire announced the arrests during a media briefing at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, on Monday, July 29, 2024.
According to Owoyesigyire, intelligence reports identified peak criminal activity during the nights from Wednesday to Friday, when bars feature “Kimansulo,” or nude dances. These events attract large crowds, and some of these attendees later become victims of robbery during follow-up home raids.
In response to the intelligence, security forces conducted coordinated raids across three locations: Kasangati, Kiwenda, and Busukuma. The operations led to the arrest of 49 individuals, including the women involved in the nude dances.
The suspects are currently held at Kasangati Police Station, facing charges of theft, burglary, and noise pollution. Owoyesigyire assured the public of the police’s ongoing commitment to combat these criminal activities and to enhance community safety.
