Shock and confusion erupted on Sunday at the 37th priestly anniversary and thanksgiving of Rev. Fr. Ndomugabe Balthazar (1987-2024) when Kabale district aspirant MPs fought for the NRM flag.
The event, held at Kyanamira playground in Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district, aimed to raise funds for the completion of the priest’s house at Kyanamira sub-parish, which is set to be elevated to a parish.
Over 25 million Ugandan shillings, 100 bags of cement, and four jerrycans of paint were raised for the cause. The chaos began when the master of ceremonies called on aspiring politicians and business leaders to contribute towards the completion of the priest’s house. Enid Origumisiriza, Kabale district aspirant woman MP, grabbed the microphone to showcase her political ambitions.
In her speech, Origumisiriza expressed her disappointment at not being elected in the previous elections, despite her hopes, due to the last-minute surge in support for Kabale district woman MP Catherine Ndamira. Origumisiriza asked the Christians to give her the NRM flag in 2025 and vote for her in the 2026 general elections, promising to effectively represent them in parliament and bring development to Kabale district.
Immaculate Kagwa, also vying for the same seat, echoed similar sentiments, asking the Christians to give her the flag in the 2025 NRM party primaries. The master of ceremonies, Francis Runumi, a former Kabale municipality aspirant, was seen on camera vowing not to give the microphone to the rest of the politicians due to the confusion caused by the previous speakers fighting for the flag.
Owomugisha Donoziyo, aka Banga, seeking the post of Kabale district LC5 chairman, had his microphone held by the master of ceremonies but still publicly declared his ambitions to contest against incumbent chairman Nelson Nshangabasheija.
The event was attended by notable guests, including Major General Henry Mastiko, Dr. Nicholas Kamara, MP for Kabale Municipality, and Col. Emmy Katabazi, the chief guest. Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, Ndorwa West MP, donated 100 bags of cement, while Catherine Ndamira, Kabale District woman MP, supported the construction with 50 bags of cement and 1 million Ugandan shillings from Rubanda West MP Moses Kamuntu.
