The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force celebrated the promotion of 72 officers at a ceremony held yesterday at the Air Force headquarters in Entebbe. The event marked a significant moment for the officers, who were recognized for their dedicated service and commitment.
Lieutenant General Charles Okidi, Commander of the Air Force, officiated the ceremony. He expressed his appreciation to General (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the UPDF, for approving the promotions. Lt Gen Okidi congratulated the officers, emphasizing that their advancement to new ranks was a result of their hard work, rigorous training, discipline, and dedication.
During his address, Lt Gen Okidi highlighted the importance of integrity and encouraged the officers to live within their means to prevent corruption. He also acknowledged the crucial support of the officers’ spouses, thanking them for their patience and understanding while their partners are on duty.
Colonel Dan Kazini, speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, expressed gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief for acknowledging their efforts. He also thanked God for their achievements and vowed to continue working diligently, fostering teamwork, and remaining dedicated to their responsibilities.
The newly decorated officers include three Lieutenant Colonels, three Majors, two Captains, and several Lieutenants. According to a statement from the Defence portal, their promotion reflects their significant contributions and ongoing commitment to the UPDF Air Force and the country.
Retiring UPDF Generals Praised for Service and Mentorship

Brigadier General James Kinalwa, Joint Staff – Human Resource Management, encouraged the retiring Generals to engage in community activities, helping to ease their transition from military to civilian life. He emphasized the importance of respecting civil authorities to ensure a smooth shift from military to civilian norms.
On behalf of the retiring Generals, Brigadier General Charles Kisembo, Director of the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwazi, expressed gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief for his role in professionalizing the UPDF and ensuring a smooth retirement process. He pledged to contribute to Uganda’s Vision 2040 by supporting socio-economic transformation and development.
The retiring Generals shared their satisfaction with leaving a stable and secure Uganda, reflecting on their successful guerrilla war efforts. They expressed confidence that their experience and leadership will benefit their communities, particularly in sectors like agriculture, and contribute to national progress.
The event was attended by Generals and senior officers, underscoring the significance of the occasion and the respect afforded to the retiring leaders.
