Police in Kapelebyong district have detained 23 year old William Otukoi on charges of murdering his mother and younger sister. Otukoi, a resident of Aditetau village in Amaseniko parish, allegedly attacked his family members on the afternoon of August 6, 2024.
Reports indicate that Otukoi violently assaulted his mother, Grace Asele, 43, and his sister, Juliet Adeke, 6, while they were having lunch. After the attack, he reportedly carried their bodies into a grass-thatched house and set it on fire. The charred remains were later taken to Kapelebyong Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The incident has caused significant distress and mourning among the local residents. Charles Oriokot, Otukoi’s uncle, described him as a notorious individual who had previously been involved in a violent incident with his elder brother. Oriokot explained that Otukoi had attacked his brother over minor domestic disputes, resulting in serious injuries.
Oriokot confirmed that Otukoi was apprehended by the police on the morning of August 7, 2024, while hiding. He noted that arrangements were being made to retrieve the bodies for burial later that day.
Kyoga East Police region commander Damalie Nachuha mentioned that acting police spokesperson Edison Obukulem would provide further details on the case in a forthcoming briefing.
