Bobi Wine, the President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), the largest opposition party in Uganda, has marked the six-year anniversary of the death of Yasin Kawuma. Kawuma was shot dead by security personnel during the 2018 Arua by-election, an incident that Bobi Wine has described as a failed assassination attempt on his own life.
In his statement, Bobi Wine highlighted the prolonged agony faced by Kawuma’s family, who have been waiting for justice and compensation since the tragic event. Despite the passage of six years, the regime has yet to hold accountable those responsible for Kawuma’s death or offer any form of redress to his family.
Bobi Wine expressed his continued solidarity with Kawuma’s family and reaffirmed his commitment to seeking justice. He emphasized that the pursuit of accountability for Kawuma’s killing is ongoing and assured that the family would eventually receive the closure they deserve.
