Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, has addressed concerns raised by some individuals regarding Uganda’s capability to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Kenya and Tanzania in 2027.

Dr. Baryomunsi, who described the critics as individuals with self-serving interests and a negative outlook on the country, assured that Uganda would be adequately prepared for the tournament by 2027, with all necessary facilities and resources in place.

“We have Ugandans who appear to harbor negative sentiments towards their own country, as if they have an alternative nation. These critics are essentially idle and seem to be creating unnecessary work for themselves. Unfortunately for them, their criticisms are unlikely to have any significant impact,” Dr. Baryomunsi stated on Tuesday.

“Some of these critics, such as the Lord Mayor [Erias Lukwago] and Male Mabirizi [lawyer], may simply be seeking media attention. However, the reality is that Uganda, in collaboration with the other participating countries, will put forth their best efforts when the time comes,” he added during his address to journalists in Kampala.

On September 27, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially granted Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
