Police in Mbarara District have arrested two brothers, Julius Nuwagaba, 44, and Ronald Asiimwe, 37, for allegedly evicting their 65-year-old mother, Kentaramo Irene Pasikaziya, from her home in Kariro, Rubindi, Kashari North. The suspects are being held at Rubindi Police Station.
According to Kentaramo Irene, her sons sold their share of the family property after their father’s death and have since been threatening her and trying to force her out of the house. She claims they have also neglected their five children, leaving her to care for them.
Our reporter investigated the matter and found that the brothers had indeed sold their inheritance and squandered the money.
Kentaramo Irene alleged that her sons’ actions were motivated by a desire to take control of the house and property, and that they had been threatening her and the grandchildren.
ASP Amos Betungura, the OC of Rubindi police, confirmed the arrest of the two brothers and stated that they will be charged with threatening violence.
The incident has raised concerns about elder abuse and the welfare of vulnerable family members.
