BULAGA, Wakiso District – In a tale that has captivated an entire community, three young boys known to everyone in the Bulaga daily market have found themselves caught in a whirlwind of rumors, accusations, and heartache.

Makumbi Gerald (19), Ssenyonjo Yahaya (20), and Ssengozi (21) were arrested on September 8th on charges of homosexuality. Now held at the Bulaga Police Post, these boys, sons of Bulaga raised among its vibrant market and dusty streets, face a future filled with uncertainty.

Born and bred in this community, the boys have always been seen as familiar faces at the market, working as loaders, laughing, and hustling alongside traders they’ve known since childhood.

The news of their arrest spread like wildfire through the community, where every face is familiar, and every heart beats in rhythm with its neighbors.

The allegations first arose as whispers about their alleged involvement in homosexuality. When confronted, the boys dismissed the claims as “emboozi z’amalwa.” However, the story took a darker turn when a fellow market worker accused Ssenyonjo of misconduct—an accusation many were quick to dismiss due to the complainant’s mental health struggles.

Makumbi’s story is particularly poignant. During the COVID period, he was remanded to Kitalya prison on unrelated charges. Upon his return, he spoke of the hardships he faced there, sharing stories of things no young boy should ever witness. He spoke of too much darkness, wishing he could forget, but also of how the shadows sometimes follow you home.

The community is torn. Traders at the market, who once greeted the boys with smiles, now wear looks of confusion and sorrow. Parents worry for their children, caught between judgment and compassion, and many are filled with questions: Where did things go wrong? Could they have done something different to guide these boys down a different path?

“We need to pray for our children, for God to save them from these evil vices,” one concerned parent said, their voice filled with both frustration and deep, unspoken sorrow. “Those boys should not come back here and mix with others; they could spoil everyone else,” they added, though their words were tinged with a sadness that spoke volumes.

Our efforts to reach ASP Kajera Zadoki, the officer in charge, for further details have so far been unsuccessful. He is said to be on special duties in Kiteezi, and we will continue to try to bring you more information on this developing story.

For now, the market is quieter, weighed down by the gravity of what has happened. Hearts are heavy, and eyes are watchful as everyone waits and wonders what will become of these children of Bulaga, who grew up in its streets but now find themselves at the center of a storm they never expected.
