Joseph Ayolo, Napak – The fight against corruption is gaining momentum in Karamoja following ongoing training sessions for district leaders and youth leaders. On Thursday, district leaders from Nakapiripirit participated in a one-day training on integrity aimed at helping them avoid corruption and provide satisfactory service delivery to the community.
Dr. Professor Mukisa Ayubu, the executive director of the Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition, which is conducting the training sessions, stated that when district officials promote integrity in their workplaces, the chances of corruption diminish.
“A lack of integrity creates room for corruption, so we must prioritize integrity in our service delivery to the community,” he said.
The Thursday training, organized by the Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition with funding from the Danish Embassy and GIZ, addressed numerous gaps in service delivery within the district.
Mr. Mukisa reminded officials that the well-being of local residents depends on the quality of services provided. “You are the custodians of services for our people; we must exercise maximum integrity in delivering these services,” he emphasized.
He noted that Ugandans will not benefit from the taxes they pay if civil servants entrusted with service delivery are compromised. “Let’s treat corruption as enemy number one in our society,” he stated.
He advised civil servants to consider the future of their children before contemplating embezzling public funds.
Meanwhile, the youth trained by the same organization to champion the fight against corruption in Moroto have begun holding the Moroto Municipal Council accountable for poor hygiene in the municipality.
