Obongi, Uganda –The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, has ordered the police in Obongi to immediately arrest four men, including an LC1 Vice Chairperson, for raping, defiling, and impregnating four pupils at Liwa Primary School in Gimara Sub-county, Obongi District.
The RDC gave the directive during a back-to-school campaign in Obongi District on Thursday.
At Liwa P/S, Hashaka was shocked to discover that four young girls, three in P5 and one in P7 class, had been raped, defiled, impregnated, and married off.
The headteacher of Liwa P/S, Ms. Baako Joyce Primo, told the RDC that influential figures, such as LCs, were involved in the defilement of children.
She said that over 99% of the girls who are defiled drop out of school and get married at a young age, typically between 11 and 14 years old. She cited the LC1 vice chairperson of Liwa North Village, who had raped, defiled, and impregnated a P5 girl who had dropped out of school.
The RDC found that three of the defiled girls had dropped out of school after getting pregnant and married.
In P7, the Obongi RDC interacted with a pregnant pupil (name withheld) who was in tears. She said that the man who defiled her had taken her to his home and raped her two months ago. She was forced to get married after the defiler gave two goats and two chickens to her father.
According to Hashaka Samuel Mpimbasa (RDC), he has written to the DPC Obongi SP Nkurunziza Graciano to immediately arrest all the defilers so that they can be prosecuted.
