APAC, Uganda – The police PRO for the North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, has stated that seven murder cases have been recorded within a week in the region. Most of these killings are linked to mob action by community members who are frustrated with frequent property theft.
According to SP Okema, the territorial police in Apac district have arrested a suspect identified as Omara Patrick, a 27-year-old man. Omara allegedly defiled a 7-year-old girl when he was left alone with her in a house.
The Police public relations officer of North Kyoga Region said that last week alone, police registered seven murder cases within the region. On September 27, 2024, Akello Winny, the victim’s mother, caught Omara in the act of sexually abusing the 7-year-old minor.
Omara’s actions were a clear violation of children’s rights and a criminal act against the stepchild. Okema stated that Article 34 of the Constitution of Uganda warns against socioeconomic exploitation and violating the rights of children.
Okema made this statement during a press briefing held at Lira CPS on Monday morning.
