Ruth Asaba, the widow of Moses Katusabe, a teacher at Bwikya Muslim Senior Secondary School in Hoima, has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into her husband’s brutal murder. According to police sources, Asaba was taken into custody to help law enforcement gather information about the incident, which occurred on October 11, 2024, at the couple’s home in Kicwamba cell, Hoima East Division.

Katusabe, aged 40, was reportedly murdered in his own house by an unknown assailant. The attack took place while his wife and children were in the bedroom. The killer used a sharp object, hacking Katusabe multiple times on his forehead, back of the head, shoulders, hands, and legs, before driving a sharp object into his heart. The gruesome attack left the family in shock and the community in fear.

Asaba was arrested on the night of October 13, 2024, after her husband’s burial. The Hoima East Division councillor for Kicwamba, Sunday Barya, commented on the arrest, stating that it was not unexpected for the police to detain the widow. He emphasized that several people, including relatives, were being considered as possible sources of information that could help solve the case.

“Arresting her is part of the investigation. If she is innocent, she will be released,” Barya said.

At this stage, the police have only confirmed the arrest of one suspect. The spokesperson for the Albertine Police Region, Julius Hakiiza, stated that they have Asaba in custody but refused to provide additional details, citing concerns about jeopardizing the ongoing investigation.

Relatives of the deceased provided further information about the events leading up to the murder. They explained that Katusabe had returned home at around 9:40 PM. After parking his motorcycle inside the house, he took a bath and then settled in the dining room, where he was eating and watching television. Soon after, attackers, who are believed to have been hiding inside the house, emerged and carried out the fatal assault.

Katusabe’s death has left his family devastated. He is survived by two children and his widow, Asaba, who remains in police custody as investigations continue. The murder has shocked the community, as many people try to come to terms with the violent nature of the crime.
