Suspect Arrested as Stolen AK47 is Recovered in Ibanda

A joint security operation in Ibanda District resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and two live rounds of ammunition in Igorora village.

The firearm was discovered hidden in a swamp and is believed to be linked to Kiiza Ashraf, a suspected robber who has been evading authorities in several districts, including Mbarara, Kazo, Kiruhura, and Kamwenge.

Kiiza Ashraf was apprehended on October 10, 2024, during a meticulously planned intelligence operation involving the Police, Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), and the Internal Security Organisation (ISO).

During interrogation, Kiiza revealed that the weapon was given to him by another suspect named Godfrey. Godfrey claimed to have stolen the rifle from an unidentified individual.

This successful operation highlights the effective cooperation among various security agencies in enhancing safety and reducing crime in the region. The recovery of the AK-47 is expected to aid in ongoing investigations and may lead to further arrests as authorities continue their efforts to combat criminal activities.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi regional police spokesperson, shared this information on behalf of the Uganda Police Force.
