(Hoima) – Ruth Asaba, the widow of murdered Bwikya Muslim Secondary School teacher Moses Katusabe, has been charged with murder and remanded to Kiryateete Government Prison.
The 36 year old resident of Kichwamba 1 cell in Kicwamba ward was presented in Hoima Grade 1 Magistrate Court on the evening of October 22, 2024, before Magistrate Doreen Kaayo. Her court appearance followed her arrest on October 13, just after the burial of her husband.
The court was informed that Asaba, along with others who remain unidentified, was allegedly involved in the murder of Katusabe on October 11, 2024, at their home in Kichwamba. During the court session, Asaba was only informed of the charges against her and did not enter a plea. She was subsequently remanded in custody until November 20, 2024.
Details surrounding the murder reveal that Katusabe returned home at approximately 9:40 PM on the night of the incident. After parking his motorcycle, he took a bath and settled in the dining room to eat dinner while watching television. According to relatives, the attack occurred inside his home while his wife and children were in the bedroom.
Witnesses reported that assailants, who were believed to have been hiding in the house, attacked Katusabe with a sharp object. He suffered multiple injuries, including several hacking wounds to the forehead, back of the head, and shoulders. Tragically, a sharp object was also thrust into his heart. Katusabe, who was 40 years old at the time of his death, is survived by his widow and two children.
Asaba’s arrest was made by police detectives following reports that she had information about her husband’s death. The prosecution has stated that she is implicated in the murder alongside others who are currently at large.
During the court proceedings, Magistrate Kaayo informed Asaba that the court did not have jurisdiction to hear her case, which falls under sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act Cap 120 regarding murder charges.
