(Lira City) – A brutal murder in the early hours of November 7, 2024 in Lira City’s Owiti Cell, Amuca Ward, shocked the community and led to a police investigation. The victim, 32 year old George Aliro, a butcher, died after a violent confrontation with the husband of a married woman with whom he was having an affair.
The events unfolded when Aliro, who had been in a secret relationship with Daisy Akullo, arranged to meet her at her home. At around midnight, Aliro arrived at Akullo’s residence unaware that her husband, Bazil Otim, was waiting inside. Once Aliro entered the house, Otim allegedly ambushed him, and a violent altercation ensued. According to local authorities, Otim used a panga, a machete like blade, to inflict fatal wounds on Aliro, who bled out at the scene.
Solomon Opeta, a local medical worker and resident of Owiti Cell, was the first to report the murder to police. Disturbed by the violent events so close to his home, Opeta immediately contacted law enforcement. A team of police officers, including those from Lira City West Division’s CID and Homicide Unit, quickly responded to the scene. They secured the area and collected crucial evidence, including the panga suspected to be the murder weapon.
Aliro’s body was later transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for an autopsy, where it was confirmed that the cause of death was excessive blood loss. Meanwhile, Akullo and another man, believed to be Otim’s brother, were taken into custody to assist with the investigation. However, Otim, the prime suspect, managed to flee the scene and remains at large. Police are urging him to surrender to the nearest station to help further the investigation.
