Brazil is exploring a partnership with a Chinese satellite firm as an alternative to Elon Musk’s Starlink, offering them access to a military base.

(Brasília) – After a recent fallout with Elon Musk, the Brazilian government is pursuing a new partnership with China for internet service alternatives. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has extended an invitation to SpaceSail, a Shanghai-based satellite company, to use a military base in Brazil’s northeastern region. This offer comes as Brazil seeks to explore alternatives to Musk’s Starlink, the satellite internet network provided by Musk’s SpaceX.

The decision to engage SpaceSail follows recent tensions between Musk and Brazilian officials related to his social media platform X. Now, with an official visit by China’s President Xi Jinping expected soon after the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s approach highlights its growing interest in expanding its internet service partnerships beyond the United States.
