(Kisoro) – The NRM party is confidently pushing to secure victory in the upcoming Kisoro district Woman MP by-election, backing candidate Rose Kabagyeni in her efforts to maintain strong party support in the region.
On November 8, NRM leaders joined Kabagyeni in Chahafi town council, Murora, and Kanaba sub-counties to bolster her campaign. The party’s Deputy National Treasurer, Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, emphasized that internal disagreements among NRM leaders would not weaken the party’s resolve or mission to win the election. Kyatuhaire remarked, “The NRM is bigger than everybody. That is why it has prevailed over any form of contradiction… Our objective is to win.”
Kyatuhaire pointed to the NRM’s historical support in Kisoro, expressing confidence that the community will continue to stand with the party. She highlighted the NRM’s government programs aimed at improving livelihoods, assuring supporters that they remain “firm and cannot be diverted by the interests of selfish leaders.” Kyatuhaire called for respect for the primary election results, where Kabagyeni emerged as the NRM flagbearer.
Kabagyeni, a former MP, pledged to serve Kisoro’s residents by lobbying for improvements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure if elected to Parliament. She appealed for community support, assuring voters, “I have been to Parliament and understand how things are conducted. Trust me with your votes, and I will complete the projects left unfinished by the late Hon. Sarah Mateke.”
Encouraging residents to prioritize voting, Kabagyeni advised voters to cast their ballots before attending to daily activities. She urged them to avoid choosing leaders based on divisions like tribe or religion, calling such practices “dangerous” and “counterproductive.” Instead, she said, “We are Ugandans who share similar challenges… choosing leaders based on tribes and religion is backward and retards progress.”
Campaigning in Bukimbiri County, Kabagyeni continued meeting residents, who were urged by NRM Deputy National Treasurer Hon. Kyatuhaire to embrace her leadership as one that aligns with NRM’s commitment to service. She noted that Kabagyeni would be well-coordinated with government programs, ensuring quality service delivery. “Only the NRM has clear policies to transform lives. President Museveni is looking for a cadre to serve you,” Kyatuhaire said.
Hon. Rosemary Seninde, the NRM’s Director of Mobilisation, underscored the need for unity among Kisoro’s diverse communities, emphasizing that harmony must be maintained during the electoral process. She encouraged peaceful participation, reminding voters that elections provide an opportunity to select a capable leader committed to addressing community needs through tangible projects such as infrastructure, healthcare, and access to clean water.
Rogers Mulindwa, NRM’s Communications Manager, rallied Kabagyeni’s supporters to mobilize their communities in the run-up to the election. “It is your noble duty to elect a leader of your choice. Spare some time to go and vote,” he urged.
