President Museveni's Four-Acre Model Takes Root in Greater Kibaale

(Kakumiro) – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on November 15, 2024, launched the Four-Acre Model, a transformative farming initiative aimed at boosting incomes and modernizing agriculture across the Greater Kibaale districts of Kakumiro, Kagadi, and Kibaale.

The launch event, held at Kikwaya Primary School playground in Kakumiro, underscores Uganda’s continued commitment to agricultural innovation and poverty alleviation. The campaign seeks to empower farmers by promoting efficient land use and sustainable farming practices to uplift household incomes.

Speaking to a gathering of farmers and leaders, President Museveni highlighted the success of similar initiatives in other regions and called on the people of Greater Kibaale to embrace the Four-Acre Model for financial stability.

“My people in Gomba and Sembabule are thriving. Over 2,035 households have joined the money economy through commercial agriculture, following my poverty alleviation program,” said Museveni.

The President reflected on his decades long advocacy for wealth creation, noting significant progress in regions like the cattle corridor and Greater Masaka, where dairy farming and coffee cultivation have transformed lives.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja praised Museveni’s enduring efforts to guide Ugandans out of poverty. Sharing her own success with the model, she said, “I started a four-acre model farm, and I will invite you one day to see what we have done. From six acres of onions, I earn between Shs 300 and Shs 400 million.”

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija and State Minister for Transport Fred Byamukama also commended the President’s visionary leadership. “This model will help farmers create wealth,” Byamukama noted, adding that he foresees over 100 model farmers in every sub-county within five years.

Earlier in the day, President Museveni toured several model farms in Kakumiro District, starting with Kamanyire Demonstration Farm, owned by Hon. Fred Byamukama. The farm features modern agricultural activities such as zero-grazing dairy farming, piggery, and poultry.

The President inspected the farm’s innovative components, including a solar-powered irrigation scheme designed to support smallholder farmers in achieving consistent yields. He also harvested pineapples from a plantation, symbolizing his endorsement of fruit farming diversification.

Museveni’s tour included a visit to the farm of Ms. Namubiru Sylvia in Kikwaya village. Her farm exemplifies the Four-Acre Model’s potential, boasting coffee and banana plantations, zero grazing dairy cows, and a piggery.

The event drew prominent leaders, including Agriculture Minister Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Tourism State Minister Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, and Members of Parliament, reinforcing the significance of the initiative.
