KAMPALA, Uganda –  The Uganda Golf Club was abuzz with excitement as Paul Charles Rukundo, the club captain, claimed victory at the highly anticipated Stanbic November Monthly Mug tournament biggest reward.

The event, which took place over the weekend at the Uganda Golf Course in Kitante, showcased the exceptional talent of Uganda’s golfers, but it was Rukundo who stood out, securing a fully paid business class trip to the United Arab Emirates courtesy of Fly Dubai.

Regardless of the fact that Rukundo was beaten in the Men’s category by the legendary Joseph Cwinyaai and Yunus Bbaale his luck in the evenings raffle draw wiped his tears as he was now getting an opportunity to visit one the world’s lavish cities.

Back on the course, Rukundo still pulled a relatively stellar performance throughout the tournament. Mega victory was cut short by the radical players who teed off aggressively like there was no tomorrow. Over 100 Golfers from across the region participated, eager to compete for the coveted title and the splendid prize.

“Today is very rare, never in our history has the Captain scooped the sponsors grand prize. However I’m grateful to whoever turned up to partake this November Mug. This race has been like a Kasiki to the grand finale that will go down in the month of December. We shall have more prizes, More Vibe and More Participants of course.” Rukundo said.

The Stanbic November Monthly Mug is known for bringing together elite golfers, and this year’s competition was no different. Participants battled through tough conditions but pushed through, showcasing the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that the sport embodies.

Israel Arinaitwe, Stanbic Bank Head of Personal banking described the tournament as an event that not only showcases exceptional sporting talent but also fosters community spirit and collaboration.

“Today we hosted the November Mug for the eleventh time from the start of the year. The journey has been exceptionally amazing as we now eye for the final round in December. At Stanbic Bank, we believe in the power of sports to unite people and promote active, healthy lifestyles which perfectly aligns with our purpose ‘Uganda is our home we drive her growth’. Arinaitwe said.

He added that beyond this event, they look forward to supporting initiatives that enrich our communities and provide platforms for personal and professional growth.

For the last five years, Stanbic Uganda has sponsored the Monthly Mug at UGC, and all the face-offs will go on until 21 December 2024 when the last Mug of Mugs will be happening.

Luka Abe, the seniors category winner said that though sometimes winning in a golf tournament is about luck, there is a huge aspect of hard work, craft, dedication and positioning that has not to be taken for granted while on course. He hailed the sponsors for making it happen.

Rukundo called upon the game fanatics that wish to start their golfing career to come to the Uganda Golf Course because it’s the best in the land.

“Golf is not just a game like the ordinary, it’s a thinker’s game. It’s chess on grass. Every shot calls for strategy, every putt demands precision. It’s about playing the elements, understanding the course, and most importantly, knowing yourself. I want to call upon whoever is passionate about this sport to come and we guide you. It’s fun and extremely rejuvenating, more than any sport can offer.” Rukundo said.
