Kampala, Uganda – The community of Lira City is celebrating the Integrity Award won by their own son, George Okello Ayoo, in recognition of his efforts in fighting corruption.
The prestigious award, presented to leaders who have demonstrated integrity in the fight against corruption, was given to Mayor Ayoo on Wednesday in Kampala.
The National Citizen Integrity Award, presented by ActionAid International Uganda, has brought joy to many people in the Lango sub-region, as Ayoo was honored alongside other prominent personalities in Uganda.
The colorful ceremony took place at Skyz Hotel Bukoto in Kampala on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. “My advice is that leaders should serve people with honesty and humility.
The fight against corruption is a collective responsibility for everyone, irrespective of position, party affiliation, tribal differences, or age,” said Mayor Okello Ayoo.
Dressed in his UPC attire, Mayor Ayoo outshone several political leaders from across the country with his transparent, interactive leadership and accountability, making a strong stand against corruption.
He is deeply committed to serving his people better as he prepares to contest for the Lira City East Division parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections.
Among other recipients of the award were Gen. Elwelu Peter of Teso, Hellen Adoa Abeku of Serere (Teso sub-region), Hon. MP Betty Aol Ocan and Komakech Patrick of Gulu (Acholi sub-region), Hon. Haruna Kasolo, Hon. Akoli Susan of Apac, Aleper Agness Lokuda, Hon. Marunga Stella of Fort Portal, and Bob Owiny of Teso—just a few of the distinguished awardees recognized for their integrity.
Okoda James Amora, a 50-year-old resident of Adekokwok in Lira City East Division, was among the many jubilant residents of Lira City who celebrated the award presented by ActionAid International Uganda.
They proudly cheered for their own son, George Okello Ayoo, and hailed the achievement as a landmark, a remarkable record in the fight against corruption.
George Okello Ayoo is a hardworking mayor who is now gearing up to contest and potentially replace Lira City MP Akena Jimmy Obote in the 2026 general elections.
