Addressing the media in his office on Thursday morning, the vibrant Lira District Chairman, Richard C. Maxwell Okello Orik, confirmed that the court has dismissed a case against the construction of the Lira District headquarters in Ogur Sub-county, and there is no longer any cause for concern.
The construction of the Lira District Local Government headquarters, located on 65 hectares of land in Ogur, is estimated to cost Shs 10 billion. “We don’t have any obstacles at the moment. Shs 1 billion was allocated by the government for the construction of the district headquarters,” he said.
He added that the geotechnical survey and physical planning would soon be handled by CAO Ocengel Ismail in Kampala, and the process would not take more than a week from the time of this publication. The structural plan for the headquarters, which will be a two-story building with offices and a council hall, has already been drawn up, according to LCV Chairman Orik.
He assured the media that the Government of Uganda has confirmed the release of Shs 1 billion in startup capital, which will be budgeted for in the 2024/25 financial year.
The Vice Chairman of Lira District Local Government, Boney Omara, welcomed the development as a step forward for Lira District’s progress.
Another councilor, who preferred to remain anonymous, assured the media that Lira LCV Chairman Okello Orik is a hardworking leader who has made significant contributions to service delivery across the district, with almost all the sub-counties in Lira fully supporting him without segregation.
