Obongi, Uganda – Six suspects, including hardened criminals, escaped from Obongi Central Police Station on Monday, December 30, 2024.
According to a source who preferred anonymity, this is the third time hardened criminals have escaped from Obongi CPS.
Complainants against the suspects are demanding that police headquarters investigate the matter. Some have threatened to travel to Kampala to meet with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ escape in Obongi District.
The wanainchi (local residents) are urging the IGP to investigate the police in Obongi District for suspected rampant corruption and the mysterious disappearance of suspects through suspected intentional escapes.
When contacted about the incident, the RDC of Obongi District, Samuel Mpimbaza Hasaka, confirmed that he had also received complaints from the complainants about the escape of the suspects from the safe custody of the Obongi police cell.
RDC Hasaka promised to also report the matter to higher police authorities to address the grievances of the complainants regarding the frequent escape of suspects from the Obongi police cell.
