(Jinja) – A boda boda rider identified as Michael Acidri, also known as Azabo, is under arrest for allegedly raping a 25 year old female passenger. The incident reportedly occurred late at night near Kakira Roundabout in Jinja District, leaving the victim severely injured and traumatized.
The victim, whose identity remains confidential for her safety, stated that she hired Acidri to transport her from Magamaga Town Council to Bugembe in Jinja City for a fare of Shs 3,000. However, the ride turned into a nightmare when, upon reaching Kakira Roundabout, Acidri allegedly diverted his motorcycle into a drainage channel, where he repeatedly assaulted her.
“My cries for help went unanswered as it was already past 11:00 pm, and there was limited traffic along the Jinja-Iganga highway,” the victim recounted.
She also revealed that the attack caused severe injuries to her private parts, resulting in significant physical pain and psychological trauma.
Police Intervention and Arrest
Following the assault, Acidri allegedly beat the victim and attempted to strangle her using his shirt. However, security personnel from the integrated highway patrol intervened after noticing suspicious activity and shining lights into the drainage area. The suspect fled but was apprehended by police officers as he attempted to escape.
Kiira Regional Police spokesperson James Mubi confirmed the arrest, stating that Acidri faces charges of rape and that the victim is currently receiving medical care.
