Flying Squad security personnel have apprehended a street preacher known as Pastor Paul Ssemakula, who is a born-again Christian, after he was involved in the theft of a bag containing a loaded pistol last week.
As per information obtained by this website, Ssemakula allegedly took a bag belonging to the son of a UPDF general near Acacia Mall in Kampala and subsequently fled the scene. Reports indicate that the distressed general’s son contacted security forces from CMI and the Flying Squad, who utilized CCTV footage to identify the street preacher.
Further investigations revealed that he was a serial thief residing in Suzaana zone, Nakulabye. After several days of tracking him down, he was captured at a shrine in Wakiso where he had gone to seek assistance from a witchdoctor to create charms to evade detection; however, the healer stated that he was unaware Ssemakula had stolen a bag containing a pistol.
During further questioning at CMI, the pastor confessed that he had handed over the gun to a bodaboda rider whose identity he did not know, complicating the ongoing search. He also claimed that his intention was to steal a phone and laptop from the bag but did not realize it held a pistol inside.
Additionally, he admitted to being involved in thefts around DFCU Bank, the Post Office, in Ntinda, and other locations in Kampala while he preaches the Gospel of Jesus.
