Mukono, Uganda – Police are investigating the death of Eli Shama Ssesanga, a senior three student at Seeta High School, whose body was discovered in a dormitory on Friday morning. The incident, suspected to be a suicide, has prompted an inquiry by local authorities.

According to sources, students who awoke for morning preparations discovered Ssesanga’s body and alerted school staff. Police from Mukono Police Station arrived at the scene around 4:00 AM.

Despite the incident occurring on Friday, details have remained scarce, with school management reportedly attempting to conceal information from the public.

Officers from Mukono Police Station, speaking anonymously, confirmed the death and stated that the body was transported to the city mortuary for a postmortem examination. They also indicated that school management had urged them not to disclose the incident, particularly to the media. Seeta Schools are owned by the State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysostom Muyingo.

A Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer at Mukono Police Station, also requesting anonymity, corroborated the incident to Uganda Radio Network.

Ssesanga’s body is expected to be taken to Kyotera for burial. Currently, a vigil is being held at Nyanama.

This tragic event marks the second student death in Mukono schools within a short period. Two weeks prior, Carnelian Mary Ndagire, a senior three student at Mpoma Girls, died after setting herself on fire in protest of being required to return to the school.
