Police in Sheema District are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two individuals. The crash occurred on March 7, 2025, at Mabanga Cell, Kabwohe, along the Bushenyi-Mbarara Road.
The incident involved a white Toyota Hurrier, registration number UBF 355D, driven by Joseph Bwengye, 46, a teacher and resident of Rwishamiro Cell, Kanyeganyegye, Masheruka Town, Sheema District.
According to the police, the vehicle was traveling from Bushenyi towards Mbarara when it collided with a red Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UEZ 066K.
The motorcycle was ridden by Simon Atwiine, 47, a resident of Rwanyinakaheire Cell, Rwamujojo Ward, Sheema Central Division, Sheema Municipality. Atwiine was accompanied by an unidentified passenger. It is alleged that the Toyota driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the motorcycle. Both the rider and the passenger were critically injured in the crash.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident. He stated that both victims were rushed to Kabwohe Health Centre IV and later referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. Sadly, they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
The police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.
