Kanungu, Uganda – Police in Kanungu District have launched an investigation into the death of 50-year-old Arinaitwe Emmanuel, a resident of Kanyamisindi village, Mukono Ward, Buhoma Town Council.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate, Arinaitwe and an individual known as “Super Muyaye” had attempted to sell a mattress to Tumusiime Joan, a bar attendant. When Tumusiime declined the purchase late at night, the two asked her to store the mattress while they sought another buyer.
Arinaitwe then joined other patrons, including Aguma Steven and Komuhangi Agnes, in drinking alcohol until midnight. Later, he approached “Super Muyaye” to inquire about the mattress sale. This led to a disagreement, during which “Super Muyaye” allegedly began slapping Arinaitwe.
Tumusiime Joan intervened to stop the altercation but was unsuccessful. She then asked both men to leave the bar and closed for the night. Arinaitwe remained seated on the verandah of a nearby building along the road to Kanyamisindi.
The following morning, Arinaitwe was found dead in front of Tumusiime’s bar.
Maate stated that the crime scene was examined and documented by the Scene of Crime Officer, and detectives from Butogota Police Station recorded statements from key witnesses.
A postmortem examination was conducted at the scene, and the body was released to his relatives for burial. Investigations are ongoing.
